From: Mimi CunninghamRE: Media Coverage of Jackson Katz Visit
DATE: Oct. 18, 2004
Please be reminded of the visit TOMORROW to UNCW by Jackson Katz, widely recognized for his groundbreaking work in the field of gender violence prevention education with men and boys, particularly in the sports culture and the military.
You are invited to attend the morning workshop for professional and community staff at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, in University Union Room 100 (the entire workshop runs from 9 a.m. – noon). That will present the best opportunity for some one-on-one interview time with him at the close of the morning session.
A student leader workshop is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 in the University Union, Room 100. This is open and free to the public as well.
You may also wish to cover his lecture, “More Than a Few Good Men,” which is mandatory for Learning Community and UNI classes. The lecture is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Trask Coliseum and is free and open to the public.
These programs will feature challenging dialogue focused on the fight against all forms of men’s violence against women. Katz and his staff have worked with and trained athletes, high school and college faculty worldwide, including the front office personnel of the football team, New England Patriots.
