Visiting writer Randall Kenan to give Buckner reading at UNCW

Oct. 14, 2004Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Department of Creative Writing will present a reading as part of its Katherine Buckner Lecture and Reading Series by distinguished visiting writer Randall Kenan at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in Morton Hall’s Bryan Auditorium. Books will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served afterward. The reading is free and open to the public.
Kenan is the author of Walking on Water, Black American Lives at the Turn of the Twenty-First Century (Knopf, 1999), A Visitation of Spirits (Knopf, 1989) and Let the Dead Bury Their Dead (Harcourt Brace, 1992), which was nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Award for fiction. It was also a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and was among The New York Times Notable Books of 1992. A frequent reviewer for The Nation, Kenan has also written for Spin, The New York Times Book Review, Callaloo, Emerge and other publications.
