Author Paul Loeb scheduled as Honors Scholars Spring Speaker

Wilmington, N.C. – Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time, will provide a lecture, lead a discussion and conduct a book signing as the University of North Carolina Wilmington honors scholars spring speaker at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 in Morton Hall, Bryan Auditorium, Room 100. The event is free and open to the public.
In his lecture “Hope in a Time of Fear,” Loeb will discuss “how ordinary citizens can make their voices heard and actions count in a time when we’re told neither matter.” He will also speak about what makes some people choose lives of social commitment while others abstain.
Loeb has spent over thirty years researching and writing about citizen responsibility and empowerment. He has written five books and has written on social involvement for several publications, including The New York Times and the Washington Post.
The Honors Scholars Spring Speaker is sponsored by the Honors Scholars Program, with support form the College of Arts and Sciences; the Division of Academic Affairs; the Division of Student Affairs; Office of the Chancellor; University Housing; Center for Leadership Education and Service; Leadership Studies minor; the Center for Teaching Excellence; Learning Communities; General College; Student Activities; the departments of English, psychology, chemistry, creative writing, sociology and criminal justice, philosophy and religion, and political science; and the student organizations Honors Scholars Association, Political Science Club, Episcopal Campus Ministry, People Recognizing Differences Exist, UNCW College Democrats, and the Housing and Residence Life Association.
