Ambassador David L. Mack to speak at UNCW Great Decisions Lecture Series

Wilmington, N.C. – The Department of Political Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington presents Ambassador David L. Mack at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 in Cameron Hall auditorium, Room 105. Mack will discuss key areas of interest in the Middle East as part of the Great Decisions Lecture Series.

He is the vice-president of the Middle East Institute. As deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs (1990-93), Mack directed the conduct of relations between the United States and 12 other governments, including Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Syria. As U.S. ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (1986-89), he was in charge of all U.S. government activities and over 150 civilian and military personnel. He also served as the international affairs advisor at the National War College (1993-95), where he functioned as civilian deputy to the commandant. As diplomat-in-residence at Howard University (1989-90), Mack taught courses in U.S. foreign policy.

The Great Decisions Lecture Series is the longest-standing and largest grassroots world affairs educational program of its kind. It is the core of the Foreign Policy Association’s civic education outreach efforts and works to bring millions of Americans together in communities across the country to discover, discuss and decide their opinions of foreign policy issues. This program presents experts in foreign policy on a variety of current global affairs.
