UNCW to host science fair

Feb. 16, 2005Wilmington, N.C. – On Saturday, Feb. 26, University of North Carolina Wilmington will host the annual Southeast Regional Science Fair on the campus of UNCW. The public is invited to view the projects from 1 – 2 p.m. in Hanover Gymnasium, with the awards ceremony beginning at 2:15 p.m. in Trask Coliseum.
Over 180 public and private school students from nine counties, who were winners of local county fairs, will display and explain their research projects to professional scientists and engineers from the university and local business and industry. The eight first and second place winners in the junior and senior divisions along with eight elementary winners will be eligible to compete at the State Science Fair, which will be conducted at Meredith College in Raleigh on Friday, March 18.
In addition to the regional science fair winners, various state and local organizations will be awarding special awards, which are contributions made by American Meteorological Society, Fisher Scientific and North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
