Wilmington, N.C. – The Triathlon Club at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will bike over 1,000 miles to raise money for both the Triathlon Club and Unite for Sight at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.

The Triathlon Club is accepting monetary donations to help subsidize the club’s trip to the 2005 Collegiate National Championships in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. The remaining proceeds will be donated to Unite for Sight UNCW.

The club will also have a bin set up at Two Wheeler Dealer to collect prescription eyeglasses, reading glasses and nonprescription sunglasses. Unite for Sight volunteers will distribute the glasses in Guatemala and other developing countries.

Members of the Triathlon Club will ride on bike trainers in front of Two Wheeler Dealer, located on Wrightsville Avenue.

Unite for Sight is a non-profit organization that works to improve eye health and eliminate preventable blindness worldwide. Unite for Sight UNCW works to improve eye health through eyeglass drives, vision screening and vision education. The organization also helps fund Unite for Sight’s initiatives in developing countries.

The Triathlon Club is donating its time and effort to the event because its members feel it is important to improve eye health worldwide, beginning at the local level.

All donations are tax deductible.
