March 11, 2005Wilmington, N.C. – In response to the information released by the University of North Carolina Wilmington, an anonymous phone call was received by UNCW University Police this morning which led to identifying the dog’s owner. Rabies vaccinations are current.
The student who was bitten has been provided this information as well as contact information for the owner of the dog. New Hanover County Animal Control will be provided this same information for their review and investigation. The owner of the dog has been trespassed from the university, with customary appeal rights.
University Police Chief David Donaldson offered his sincere thanks from his staff, the victim and her family for the many tips that were provided.
“While many leads did not direct us to the right dogs and owners, they just as easily could have,” he said. “In cases like this, all information is valuable in eliminating options. This type of response and cooperation from the community is invaluable, especially in cases with little information which often involve narrow timelines and potential threats to the community.”
