RE: Dog Bite - Assistance Identifying Dog Owner

A female UNCW student reported she was bitten by a dog while running in the undeveloped wooded section of campus at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. This eastern section of campus is bordered off campus by College Acres and Clear Run Drives and Mallard and Rose Avenues and on campus by Reynolds, Cahill and Plyler Drives. The bite caused a puncture wound and a scratch. The victim sought medical care. Though the wound appears minor, the status of the dog’s rabies vaccination is not known. Medical personnel have counseled the victim to undergo precautionary treatment for rabies if the dog’s vaccination is not verified within five days.

The dog is described as a black and brown Doberman. The owner is described as a white male in his late 30’s to early 40’s, average weight approximately 5’6” to 5’8” tall wearing blue jeans and a blue coat. A second dog was present and was described as older, walking with a waddle, gray and fat.

Neither the dogs’ owner nor the dogs have been identified. It is imperative that the owner be identified and the status of the dog’s rabies vaccination be verified.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of the dog’s owner is urged to contact the UNCW Police Department at the following numbers or e-mail:
