Guest Artists Peter Zambito and Daniel Rice to Perform at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. – As part of their recital tour of the Mid-Atlantic States, Peter Zambito, percussion, and Daniel Rice, trombone, will be joined by Karen Rice, piano, for a performance at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 in Kenan Auditorium on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Zambito, is the assistant director of bands and drumline instructor at Concord University and Daniel Rice, a professor at Cape Fear Community College, is the principal trombonist for the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. They will perform works for solo trombone, solo percussion, and trombone and percussion including Zambito’s own “Athens Sonata.”

Zambito is an assistant professor of music at Concord University in Athens, W.V., serving as percussion instructor and assistant band director. After a degree in piano performance from Wake Forest University, he completed his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Daniel Rice has held faculty positions at Radford University in Virginia and the UNCG. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from UNCG, the Master of Music degree in trombone performance from Florida State University, and the Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from UNCG. He has performed with the Greensboro Symphony as well as the North Carolina Symphony and currently serves as principle trombonist with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with the 11 Degree Trombone Quartet, of which he is a founding member. He holds the position of music instructor at Cape Fear Community College where he teaches low brass performance studies, music theory, and music appreciation.

Karen Rice has recently completed the coursework for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano at UNCG. Along with many solo performances, she has been an active collaborative pianist and has served as accompanist for the N.C. Choral Director’s Association convention and the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference competition. She is on the faculty as the instrumental accompanist at UNC Wilmington.
