Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington Native American Student Organization (NASO) will host its 4th Annual Powwow from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 12 on the quad of UNCW between Alderman, Hoggard and James halls. The purpose of the event is to promote, demonstrate and educate the public about the Native American culture on UNCW’s campus and in the community at large. The event is free and open to all.

The day will be filled with Native American dancing, drumming, music, arts and crafts, and jewelry as well as a history of powwows. This year’s powwow will host Stoney Creek as the northern drum group and Sandon Jacobs as powwow master of ceremonies.

A powwow is a way to keep Native American traditions alive in the modern world and offers a time for all people to come out to experience and enjoy Native American history and culture. The UNCW powwow will have several different tribes represented to share the experience. Attending will be representatives of the Lumbee, Waccamaw Siouan and Haliwa Saponi tribes.

The event is being co-sponsored by UNCW Student Government Association, UNCW Office of Campus Diversity and #1 Stunna Racing Co.
