RE: Nomenclature for UNC Wilmington, Logo Reminder

There has been a change in how UNCW refers to itself in marketing and news. Instead of being known as the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the administrative cabinet has approved dropping the “the” and also the “at.” Effective March 2005, the appropriate reference should be University of North Carolina Wilmington. It is also appropriate to say UNC Wilmington and UNCW with no hyphen.

For official documents such as contracts, transcripts, and graduation diplomas, the official name will be used as stated in North Carolina General Statutes and in The Code of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina -- The University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Also, I have noticed that some media outlets are using old logos and incorrect colors to illustrate stories about UNCW. Please make sure your graphic designers receive this memo and the link to our logo Web site. UNCW’s colors are teal – PMS 329, blue – PMS 281, gold – PMS 120. Conversion charts for Web use can be found at www.uncw.edu/news/guidelines/policies.html#6.
