Annual Jazz Scholarship Concert Features Susan Reeves
Friday, April 15, 2005
April 15, 2005Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington and the Cape Fear Jazz Appreciation Society present their annual jazz scholarship benefit concert at 8 p.m. Friday, April 22 in Kenan Auditorium on the UNCW campus. Admission is $10 for the public and free to UNCW students with valid ID.
This jazz benefit concert will feature vocalist Susan Reeves. Currently Reeves is creating her own blue jazz sound: soulful, blues-infused renditions of standards and lesser-known gems. Her love of clever lyrics and inviting melody combined with her lush phrasing and extended range create a compelling listening experience. Her CD aLive! will be available at the performance and through CDBaby.com. Reeves is a member of the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra and a recipient of an emerging artist grant from the Durham Arts Council. She continues to expand her musical directions to include songwriting and arranging.
The Cape Fear Jazz Appreciation Society Scholarships in Music are annual awards established by the CFJAS in support of students who are interested in majoring in music within the jazz program. The scholarships are based primarily on study of jazz instrumental performance and/or composition.
Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the University of North Carolina Wilmington and are used to support the Department of Music through scholarships for UNCW music students. For ticket information, contact the Kenan Auditorium Box Office at 910/962-3500. For concert information, call 910/962-7416.
