Author Edward Hower and Pulitzer Prize Winner Alison Lurie to Present Joint Reading April 12

April 4, 2005Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington Department of Creative Writing and Bristol Books present an evening with Alison Lurie and Edward Hower. The reading is 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at Bristol Books, Lumina Station, 1908 Eastwood Road, Wilmington.
Edward Hower will be reading from his new novel, The Storms of May and from his volume of folktales from India, The Pomegranate Princess. Hower is the author of ten books and has received two Fulbright grants to India. In addition to writing ten books, he has published over 150 stories, articles, and book reviews in The New York Times, Smithsonian, Atlantic Monthly and Southern Review.
Alison Lurie is an American writer and scholar who is probably best known for her novels, which have often been described as social satire. Her novel Foreign Affairs won the Pulitzer Prize and relates the adventures of two American academics in London. It was made into a film for television with Joanne Woodward and Brian Denehey. She has also published a collection of ghost stories, Women and Ghosts; a book on the psychology of fashion, The Language of Clothes; and a collection of essays on children's literature and folklore, Don't Tell the Grownups. She is also coeditor of the 73-volume Garland Library of Children's Classics.
