Evening of Brass at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington brass studios and an invitational brass ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 in Kenan Auditorium on the campus of UNCW. This event is free and open to the public.

The brass studios include trumpet, horn and trombone students performing as soloists and in small ensembles. Works will include a solo performance of “Sonata for Trombone” by Halsey Stevens performed by Ben Kiefer. Student ensemble selections include “Tango” by Isaac Albeinz, “Round Midnight” by Thelonious Monk, “Scherzo “ by John Cheetham and “Suite For Five Trumpets” by Ronald Lo Presti. In addition, the UNCW Faculty Brass Quintet will perform Samuel Scheidt’s “Battle Suite” and “Dance” by Wilke Renwick.

The Evening of Brass concert will also include a premier performance of an invitational brass ensemble of college, high school and community brass players from local schools and bands. The invitational choir will perform works by Howarth, Boysen and a multi-choir work by Gabrieli, “Antiphony No. 2.” The invitational brass choir is part of the music department’s outreach effort and will involve players from New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender and Onslow counties.
