Wilmington, N.C. – The herd is here! William Madison Randall Library at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is now showcasing the art exhibit “Giraffes and Zebras: A Wire Herd” by Wilmington sculpture artist Michael Van Hout in the first floor atrium of the library. This exhibit is a revamped herd that has migrated from the Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum where it grazed in Fall 2004.

Van Hout’s sculpture installation captures the artistic core of these wonderful creatures. He states, “I’m not interested in creating animals in motion. I’m more interested in the knees of a giraffe or the ears of the zebra than a herd of stampeding elephants.” He relies on sources such as children’s books to study skeletal structure and anatomy of form. Van Hout’s studio is located in Acme Art Studios, 711 North 5th Avenue, Wilmington, NC.

Come and enjoy an interaction with the four-legged herd at the library. Do not feed the animals!
