Due to the unplanned equipment failure and subsequent power outage yesterday, it is critical that additional repairs to damaged electrical equipment be made immediately. A planned power outage to the front part of campus has been scheduled to have the least impact during this critical time. The scheduled outage is planned to occur from 3 am to 6 am on Thursday morning. The same buildings that sustained a power outage yesterday will be affected by the planned outage, with the exception of Friday Hall, which will have power during this time period. Therefore, Randall Library, including the computer lab, will close at 2 am. In order to accommodate students who may need to study at that time, the Union Information Center Lobby and Hawk's Nest will be opened at 2 am. Coffee and continental breakfast will be available. Access to on-line library services will be unavailable during the outage. Other computing services (e.g., Internet) will be available to buildings that have power, including the Union and the residence halls, as well as off campus locations. The Union computing lab will not be open, so students will need their laptops. The main computing services and the telephone system will remain in operation, supported by building generators. Because portions of the campus will be dark, there will be concentrated patrols by police and guards in the affected areas. Should anyone need an escort, call 962-3184 or extension 3184 on campus.
