UNCW Saxophone Ensembles Performance in Kenan

Wilmington, N.C.— Two University of North Carolina Wilmington saxophone ensembles will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 in Kenan Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

The UNCW saxophone ensembles are composed of UNCW saxophone students performing in two ensemble settings. The saxophone quartet will perform Quartet, Opus 181, and the larger saxophone ensemble of nine saxophonists will perform Brian Israel’s Concertino, among others.

Concluding the concert will be the debut performance of the Frank Bongiorno Saxophone Quartet. The quartet is composed of UNCW faculty Frank Bongiorno, soprano saxophone and Michael Waddell, alto saxophone, Matthew McClure, tenor saxophone, and Curt Altarac, baritone saxophone. Scheduled pieces for performance include Eugene Bozza’s Andante et Scherzo, Russell Howland’s Quartet, and the premiere of Giacomo Puccini’s Elegy for string quartet arranged for saxophone quartet by Frank Bongiorno.
