UNCW Wing Symphony and Chamber Winds

Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington Wind Symphony and Chamber Winds are scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Monday, April 25 in Kenan Auditorium. General admission tickets are $5 and are free to UNCW students with valid ID.Christofer Ackerman will conduct the wind ensembles for a performance of Paul Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphosis.” BBC Philharmonic conductor, Yan Pascal, describes this work as Hindemith’s “most successful orchestral work. The high-spirited jazz fugato for wind instruments and percussion is rousing. A lively march introduced by resolute fanfares closes this popular work.”
University students including music majors from the Department of Music, outstanding high school musicians, local music teachers, people in the music business and music industry and other community members create UNCW’s premiere symphonic band. Chamber Winds is a subset of the Wind Symphony that primarily consists of music majors and performs works emphasizing strong musician independency and soloist practices.
