Public Input Sought in University of North Carolina Presidential Search
Tuesday, May 03, 2005
The UNC Board of Governors’ Presidential Search Committee will host a series of four open forums in May to invite input from the University community and the general public about key issues facing the 16-campus University of North Carolina and characteristics and qualities desirable in the next president.Earlier this month, UNC President Molly Corbett Broad announced her plans to retire from the post by the end of the next academic year. Soliciting public comment and ideas is an important early step in identifying potential candidates to succeed her.
J. Bradley Wilson, chair of the search committee and chair of the Board of Governors, will host the forums, which are scheduled as follows:
* Wednesday, May 4, 2005, UNC Charlotte, McKnight Hall, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
* Thursday, May 5, 2005, North Carolina A&T State University, NewClassroom Building Auditorium (A218), 9:00-11:00 a.m.
* Thursday, May 5, 2005, UNC-Chapel Hill, School of Government, Room 2603, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
* Monday, May 16, 2005, East Carolina University, Murphy Center Athletic Complex, 11:00-1:00 p.m.
Registration is required for those wishing to be heard at the forums, and all comments should be related to important issues facing the University and qualifications and traits desirable in the next president. Those wishing to speak may email a request to
UNCSearch@northcarolina.edu by noon the day before or may sign up on site at least 60 minutes prior to the conclusion of the forum. Speakers will be asked to limit their comments to three minutes. The Committee would appreciate speakers’ providing a written copy of their remarks. Those unable to attend the forum may also share their thoughts with the search committee via email atUNCSearch@northcarolina.edu or via U.S. mail to UNC Presidential Search, PO Box 2688, Chapel Hill, NC 27515.
