Wilmington, NC – The Division of Student Affairs at UNCW announces Jo Dee Messina will perform at 8 p.m. on September 24 in Trask Coliseum. Messina will take the stage as part of UNCW’s Family Weekend Celebration. Tickets go on sale to students, faculty, staff and family weekend registrants on at 10 a.m. on August 8.

UNCW faculty and staff are encouraged to purchase their tickets early by visiting www.uncwtickets.com. Faculty and staff will receive a discounted price of $24.50 by using their UNCW e-mail address when purchasing tickets on-line. There is a 12 ticket limit per order. Tickets will open to the general public on Monday, August 29 at $34.50 per ticket (limit 12). The public may purchase their tickets by visiting www.uncwtickets.com.

Messina is an award-winning, multi-platinum artist who has had eight number one singles. In addition, she has been honored by the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music, the Grammys and is the first female country artist to score three multiple-week number one songs from the same album. “Music has always been an enormous part of my life,” said Jo Dee. “It’s not just something I do, it’s part of who I am. Songwriting to me is my refuge, a safe place to me where I can go to spell out my emotions, especially when dealing with tough situations. It helps me to gain perspective. You could say that songwriting gives me emotional freedom.”

Jo Dee released her 4th studio album, Delicious Surprise in April of 2005. The single, “My Give a Damn’s Busted,” immediately rose to #9 on the R&R Singles Chart and #10 on Billboard.
