WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington Triathlon Club, UNCW’s “2005 Sports Club of the Year,” will sponsor a 5K run as part of UNCWelcome ’05 festivities.

The event will begin at 8 a.m., Aug. 20, beginning and ending at the Student Recreation Center’s parking lot. Same-day registration and packet pick-up will start at 7:15 a.m. The distance of the run is 5 kilometers or roughly 3.1 miles.

The registration fee is $5 for students and $10 for non-students in advance by contacting Kevin Smith (kss3379@uncw.edu) or visiting http://student.uncw.edu/org/triathlon. Race day registration fee is $15. All fees are non-refundable, and the first 150 people to register will be given a free t-shirt. Prizes will be given out to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.

No bikes, pets, strollers, headphones, or roller blades will be permitted on the grounds during the 5K run. The run will cover the majority of UNCW’s campus; however, roads will remain open with some minor traffic delays as runners cross various locations.
