Germano to Give Lecture at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington Center for Faculty Leadership is sponsoring two events featuring William Germano, vice-president and former publishing director at Routledge Press, on Thursday, Sept. 29. The first is a two-hour working lunch session on publishing a manuscript with 13 faculty members nominated by department chairs, followed by an evening public lecture, “The Writing Life of Scholars.” The evening program is at 8 p.m. in King Hall 101 and will be followed by a reception. The event is free and open to the public.Prior to joining Routledge in 1986, Germano was editor-in-chief at Columbia University Press. He has a B.A. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in English from Indiana University. Among the authors he has published are Cornel West, Judith Butler, Stephen Greenblatt, Martin Jay, Donna Haraway, Gloria Anzaldúa, Paul de Man and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak.
He also writes essays and articles for the Chronicle of Higher Education and other publications in North America and the UK. He has written two books: Getting It Published: A Guide for Scholars and Anyone Else Serious about Serious Books (University of Chicago Press, 2001) and From Dissertation to Book, also from Chicago (2005). He recently taught a one-semester course on book editing in the graduate program in publishing at NYU, lectures widely on publishing and writing, and is currently developing a series of workshops for faculty and advanced graduate students.
