UNCW Wind Symphony to Perform

Wilmington, N.C. - The UNCW Wind Symphony will be performing Darius Milhaud’s, “Suite Française,” “Suite No. 2 for Winds,” by Theodore Dubois, and other select turn-of-the-century pieces for Wind Symphony at 8 p.m. on Monday Sept. 26 in Kenan Auditorium at University of North Carolina Wilmington. This event features Christofer Ackerman as director.The Wind Symphony is UNCW’s premiere symphonic band and its members consist of music majors in the music department and other university students; while also involving outstanding high school musicians, local music teachers (both retired and active), people in the music business and music industry, and other community members. The Wind Symphony connects the university with the community by striving to create the highest level of musical communication possible through the performance of the wind band repertoire.
Ackerman received his B.A. in music education, cum laude, at The University of Arizona, Tucson and his Master’s of Music in Performance at Northwestern University. He is currently performing as the Principal Trumpet of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. He has maintained a richly diverse musical life that has included solo performances, lead parts in off-Broadway shows, extensive touring though Norway and Germany, CD recordings, studio work, and numerous other venues throughout the United States, Central America, and Europe.
General admission is $5. Admission is free to UNCW students with a valid ID. Tickets are available at Kenan Auditorium Box Office (910/962-3500) one hour prior to the event.
