Thursday, October 06, 2005

Wilmington, N.C - The Academy for Strategic Management is being offered at University of North Carolina Wilmington. The eight-week program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday beginning Sept. 9 at the UNCW Executive Development Center(EDC)at Landfall.

This program is designed for mid-level executives in the public and non-profit sector. Participants will receive continuing education credit and academic credit upon request. Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

“This academy is a good idea in this region. There are a lot of government executives and nonprofit practitioners that want to get the best and most timely training without having to get a degree. I think it will be successful,” said Milan Dluhy, UNCW professor of political science and public administration.

Modules will be co-taught by one academic instructor, one public sector instructor, and one non-profit instructor for each module. Sessions will include basic concepts, examples and cases, and practice exercises. Total cost for the eight sessions is $500.

Topics and schedule are as follows: Oct. 14, Managing For Results: Performance Measurement and Performance Budgeting; Oct. 21, Performance Contracting, Benchmarking, Re-engineering; Nov. 4, Resource Development/Grant Writing; Nov. 11, Presenting Results to Elected Officials, Public and Staff; Dec. 9, Media and Public Relations; and Dec. 16, Ethics, Values, and Public Perceptions.
