An Evening of Brass at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. - An Evening of Brass to feature the Invitational Brass Choir, the Port City Tuba and University of North Carolina Wilmington Faculty Brass Quintet at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13. The program will include works by Paul Dukas, John Stevens, Oskar Böhme, and Giovanni Gabrieli.

The performers include UNCW Brass Faculty, guest artists from the New Hanover and Brunswick County Schools, and community members. The program will also include performances by the UNCW Student Brass Quintet and Trumpet Studio.

For the second consecutive year, the Evening of Brass concert will feature an Invitational Brass Choir directed by Dr. Daniel Johnson and comprised of local college, high-school, professional and community players. For the first time, this concert will also include a performance by the Port City Tubas, a low-brass quartet of college and community players performing “Music 4 Tubas.”

Other upcoming music related events include An Artist Recital Series concert, “A Tale of Two Brasses,” to begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 in Kenan Auditorium. This event features professors Christofer Ackerman (trumpet) and Daniel Johnson (tuba) accompanied by Karen Rice (piano) and John Rack (percussion). Tuba Christmas is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Westfield Independence Shoppingtown. Tuba Christmas, an annual seasonal celebration of tubas will be conducted by Daniel Johnson and performed in coordination with hundreds of similar concerts across the country and abroad.
