By Larry Pakowski, CLES fellowHalloween Carnival for Kids Oct. 27
The Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will host its annual Halloween carnival for kids on Thursday, Oct. 27.
This annual event brings children from various community organizations to campus who may not be able to go out into their communities to trick-or-treat.
Considered one of the flagship programs of CLES, student leaders and organizations partner together for trick-or-treating in residence halls, a carnival with games and prizes, an outdoor haunted forest, and much more.
Donations and other support are greatly appreciated.
Media are invited to attend. For more information contact Jen Toop, CLES fellow, at jt8426@uncw.edu or 910/228-6744.
Tricks and Treats Abound at Upcoming Halloween Family Pops Concert
UNCW’s Department of Music presents a Halloween Family Pops Concert, an evening of music and magic at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 in Kenan Auditorium. Christofer Ackerman conducts the UNCW Wind Symphony, in costume, in a line up of Halloween favorites certain to delight audiences of all ages. As a special treat, magician Michael Rosander joins the wind symphony to perform some of his most captivating tricks.
The 50-minute program will include Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by J.S. Bach, “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from the Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg, selections from The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Symphonic Suite from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by John Williams, and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas.
Audience members are encouraged to attend the concert in costume and children (age 5-13) will have the opportunity to win a full scholarship to Wilmington’s own Magic Camp, a weeklong summer camp that teaches children how to create their own magic.
This event is free to the public and is sponsored by the UNCW Department of Music.

The wind symphony is a place where the university connects with the community striving to create the highest level of musical communication possible through the performance of the wind band repertoire.
