Wednesday, November 02, 2005
Wilmington, NC - The University of North Carolina Wilmington Alumni Association and the UNCW Theatre Program present an exciting evening of dinner followed by a performance of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. The evening begins with a social at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 in the Madeline Suite followed by a traditional 1692 (year of The Salem Witch Trials) Thanksgiving supper at 6. Participants will then move to Kenan Auditorium for the play, being directed by UNCW theatre professor Terry Theodore.Written by Miller in 1953, The Crucible, is based on the events that took place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. It is one of the few widely recognized master works of the 20th century. The story is laced with examples of how personal weakness, communal paranoia and religious zealotry can destroy reputations and cause the loss of innocent lives.
Cost for the evening is $25 for alumni association members and $30 for non-members. Tickets must be purchased by noon on Nov. 16 and can be bought through visiting www.uncwalumnitickets.com or by calling 910.962.2682. This event is being sponsored by Bank of Wilmington.
Broadway legend Pat Hingle will be the evening’s guest of honor. Pat performed in The Crucible on Broadway, and worked with the late Miller. Hingle made his film debut in On the Waterfront, starring Marlon Brando.
