WILMINGTON, N.C. - David Swain, a commercial developer and founder of Swain & Associates, has been named chair of the UNCW Board of Visitors by Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo.

"I welcome the opportunity to work with such a great group of business and community leaders from throughout the state," said Swain, a Wilmington, N.C., resident. "The board members and I look forward to helping UNCW grow."

The Board of Visitors includes 66 volunteers appointed by the chancellor. The board members serve as advocates for UNCW within their professional and civic networks. They assist with fundraising, government relations and community relations. In addition, the board supports an endowed merit scholarship fund.

Joan Gillings of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., has been named vice chair of the UNCW Board of Visitors. Several new members from across North Carolina have joined the board. They include: Marilyn Bollinger, Jetta Boyd, Cameron Coburn, Chris Glendenning, Robin Jordan, Thom Potratz, Ann Sherman-Skiba and Brad Sweeny, all of Wilmington; Keith Walker of Beaufort; Dale Parker of Benson; Joe Elphick of Cary; Larry Dagenhart of Charlotte; Judy Wooden of Durham; Bill Culpepper of Edenton and J.K. Horne and Thorne James of Raleigh.
