Djembe Fire! by Magic of African Rhythm Public Performance at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington Upperman African American Cultural Center (UAACC) announces a performance by The Magic of African Rhythm, a drumming and dance ensemble, to kickoff Black History Month. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 in the Warwick Center Ballroom and is free and open to the public.

The troop is comprised of approximately 15 members of the Shabu family. Rashid Shabazz, assistant director of the UAACC, says he is "very excited to have The Magic of African Rhythm, who are very committed to their craft, perform at UNCW."

The UAACC, located in the UNCW University Union 208, was established in 1995 and is directed by Deborah Brunson. The UAACC provides all UNCW students, faculty and staff and its surrounding community the opportunity to explore the rich heritage, arts, literature and history related to African-American culture.

Musician Grenaldo Frazier is the spring 2006 Upperman artist, whom are selected to combine visual and performing arts with culture.
