Monday, March 13, 2006

Wilmington, N.C. - Faculty who teach in the University of North Carolina Wilmington Science Humanities and Society program will hold a semi-annual panel discussion, "I cannot tell a lie: The truth-what is it?" at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22 in King Hall Auditorium.

Panelists will discuss the search for truth, different forms of truth, and the various definitions of truth. Participating faculty include Cara Cilano (English), Steven Dworkin (Psychology), Don Habibi (Philosophy and Religion), Diane Melroy (Biology), William McCarthy (History), Vibeke Olson (Art & Art History) and Patricia Turrisi (Philosophy and Religion).

"Truth is an elusive subject. From politics, the law courts and morality to science, the arts and personal well-being, the identification and definition of truth is both crucial and problematic," says McCarthy, SHS program coordinator.

The SHS program was designed and implemented through several academic departments to foster the study of issues important to modern society. From an interdisciplinary perspective, scientific developments are fully examined in the context of academia and society at large.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact William McCarthy at 910.962.3313 or mccarthyw@uncw.edu.
