Grammy Winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra Comes to UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. - The Spanish Harlem Orchestra is set to perform at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 in Kenan Auditorium as part of the University of North Carolina Wilmington Presents Arts in Action Performance Series.

Winners of a 2005 Grammy for Best Salsa Album for their work on the album Across 110th Street with Ruben Blades, the 13-member orchestra is a pillar of contemporary Latin music. Listeners and dancers from the South Bronx to Hong Kong have fallen under SHO's spell.

Musical director Oscar Hernandez will lead an open rehearsal from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Kenan Auditorium followed by a Q&A session. The public is free to observe but registration is required. For space reservations, call 910.962.7972 or e-mail artsinaction@uncw.edu.

Tickets for the performance are $6 for university and area students, $14 for UNCW faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $18 for all others.
