UNCW Chancellor Elected to NCCBI Board of Directors

Wilmington, N.C. - University of North Carolina Wilmington Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo was elected to the board of directors of North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry at its annual meeting in mid-March. She was also asked to serve an unexpired term on the executive committee. With close to 2,000 members, NCCBI is the state's largest and most influential business group, known for its balanced, thoughtful approach to public policy issues.A nonpartisan, nonprofit membership organization, NCCBI was founded in 1942 and serves as the state Chamber of Commerce, and is recognized as such by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. NCCBI also is the official state affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers.
NCCBI's broad mandate is to improve the quality of life for all North Carolinians, a goal it pursues by working to safeguard the state's favorable business climate, by improving educational opportunities for everyone and by maintaining a clean, healthy environment.
DePaolo was elected to serve a four-year term effective April 1. She will be eligible for reelection to a second four-year term. As a director, she will be charged with voting on internal policy issues, including the annual budget, advising the staff and executive committee on public policy issues, and serving as an ambassador and act as the eyes and ears" for the organization.
"I found the first meeting fascinating, and met many great people, all of whom are committed to helping North Carolina thrive economically," said DePaolo. "Higher education and a thriving economy go hand in hand."
DePaolo became the third chancellor and sixth leader of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in July 2003. She is the first female to head the university.
