Friday, March 17, 2006

Wilmington, NC - The University of North Carolina Wind Symphony presents Music That Tells a Story: Adventures Through Sound at 8 p.m. Monday, April 3 in Kenan Auditorium. North Carolina Senator and UNCW alumna Julia Boseman will be the guest narrator.

The evening includes works from and inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Senator Boseman, who has taken part in previous UNCW Department of Music events, will narrate excerpts from these epic adventures while the symphony performs.

Highlights include a performance of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", composed by Harry Gregson-Williams and arranged by Paul Murtha for the 2005 film; and Symphony No. 1, "Lord of the Rings" composed by Johan de Meij in the 1980s. The final piece, "Awakening of The Ents" by H. Owen Reed, was also inspired by The Lord of the Rings and features members of the UNCW choral ensembles who lend their talents as the voice of Tolken's Elven language.

This concert is free and open to the public.
