The Pre-Vet Club to Install Dog Waste Dispensers at UNCW
Wednesday, April 26, 2006
By Kai Oliver-Kurtin, PR InternWILMINGTON, NC-The Pre-Veterinary Medical Association invested in six "dogi-pot" stations that will hold baggies used to pick up animal feces while people are walking their pets around the campus of UNCW. The dogi-pot installation will take place at 10 a.m. May 7 around the clock tower. The Pre-Vet club is hoping to improve the campus-wide environment by aiding in its overall cleanliness.
"We picked this event because we feel that picking up after your pet is an important responsibility of being a pet owner," said Sara Waltz, fundraising and publicity co-chair. "Once the club made the decision to go forward with the dogi-pots, we began looking for $100 sponsors in the community. The law office of Chris Oring agreed to be a sponsor and his name will appear on one of the dogi-pots."
The remaining funding was raised through organization dues and fundraising events including a bake sale and dog wash. The Pre-Vet club has 25 active members and strives to strengthen the bond between humans and animals. Over the summer, the club will check that the dispensers are stocked and cared for. In the future, they hope to increase the number of dog waste baggie dispensers on campus and in the community.
