Wilmington, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington will welcome 38 Teaching Fellows Scholarship recipients to campus this fall. A total of 500 Teaching Fellows are enrolled at 14 campuses of the University of North Carolina System. Students who participate in this program receive $26,000 for their educational expenses and in turn agree to teach for four years in the state of North Carolina.

The Teaching Fellows program at UNCW has a seminar foundation, with extra curricular activities to enhance the students' educational courses. In addition, they participate in Teaching Fellows-led committees designed to foster and promote leadership. Freshman year they serve as tutors to students in New Hanover County. Sophomore year focuses on diversity in schools, and students delve into the different ways to best educate people. As juniors, their seminar spotlights exemplary teachers in the school system; students observe and interview these teachers to help put into practice theories they learned and to observe life as an educator. The seniors participate in a seminar designed to provide them with strategies that will help them become successful in the academic world.
