Atwill Named Associate Director of UNCW Honors Scholars Program
Monday, August 07, 2006
Wilmington, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington Honors Scholars Program is pleased to announce William "Bill" Dorsey Atwill as its associate director. Atwill has been extensively involved in the program, teaching honors classes, directing departmental honors projects and previously serving as associate director from 1997-2002."These experiences have been among the most stimulating and vital of my academic life, and I welcome the opportunity to again be involved on a daily basis," he says.
"As is true of any English major, I have traveled widely in books and have eclectic interests in diverse areas of learning. Over the years I've formed many friendships with faculty from various departments and they continue to inspire me, often to the point that I wish I had become a biologist, historian, psychologist, or forensic anthropologist. Too late for that, but as associate director of the honors program I get to assist bright students in their intellectual journeys and to vicariously travel with them along their diverse academic paths. Short of living one's life over, what could be better?"
Atwill has been an associate professor of English at UNCW since 1990. He holds a B.A. in English from University of South Florida, a master's in English from Florida Atlantic University and a Ph.D. in English from Duke University.
