An Evening of Brass at Kenan Auditorium

Wilmington, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington Department of Music presents An Evening of Brass featuring the UNCW brass ensembles and special guests, the Oklahoma Brass Quintet at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8 in Kenan Auditorium.The first half of the evening features a line-up of brass favorites performed by the UNCW Faculty Brass Quintet, UNCW Trumpet Studio, and Department of Music students and faculty. Highlights include ragtime-influenced Claude Debussy's "Golliwogg's Cakewalk" in an arrangement for the tuba and euphonium by Bryan Doughty, UNCW Trumpet Studio's performance of Prelude and Fugue for Trumpet Choir by Eric Ewazen and Mozart's Rondo performed by piano and euphonium.
The second half of the evening features special guests, the Oklahoma Brass Quintet. Specializing in both classical and jazz, Oklahoma Brass Quintet, the resident brass ensemble from The University of Oklahoma, will present an evening of brass selections ranging from 20th century greats by composers such as Duke Ellington to classical selections by Bach. Other highlights include "Girl with the Flaxen Hair" by Claude Debussy, Four Movements for Five Brass by Collier Jones, and Manning Sherwin's romantic standard "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square".

Oklahoma Brass Quintet, special guest
The Oklahoma Brass Quintet, a fixture of musical life at the University of Oklahoma, specializes in classical and jazz music and has been entertaining music lovers throughout the world for two decades. Demonstrating the excellence of OU's musical programs, the Oklahoma Brass Quintet has been invited to teach masterclasses at some of the nation's premiere institutions for musical education.
