Harris Named University Auditor

Wilmington, N.C. - Dana Harris, previously University of North Carolina Wilmington Director of Student Accounts Services, assumed the position of Assistant to the Chancellor for Compliance/Director of Internal Audit on Feb. 1.

Before joining UNCW, Harris, Certified Public Accountant, served as an Assistant State Auditor for North Carolina. In this role, which she held for fourteen years, Harris gathered and evaluated financial data from various state agencies in accordance with audit plans and procedures and accordingly made recommendations for improvements. Harris audited UNCW for the government, collecting extensive knowledge on the internal workings of the institution.

In 2004, Harris accepted the responsibilities of the Student Accounts and Cashier Services. Harris directed the daily operations in Student Accounts, Cashier's Office and Student Collections. She also managed Banner and Web applications, as well as insured timely reporting to internal departments and the state and federal government.

Additionally, Harris currently serves on key committees such as Banner Student Executive, Banner Implementation Team, Residency Appeals, and various initiative groups and scholarship committees.

Harris notes, "I am looking forward to assuming the role as the Director of Internal Audit for the university. I am anticipating a positive and professional working relationship with the UNCW staff and faculty."
