Keynote Speakers
Richard Johnson: A lifelong entrepreneur and one of the first Silicon Alley pioneers, Johnson started his first company in 1988 and launched HotJobs.com in 1996. In 1999, Johnson took a huge risk by mortgaging his house and all of his assets to borrow $4 million to run a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl. The gamble paid off as HotJobs became the sixth-most-recognized Internet brand in the world, went public and earned more than $165 million that year. In 2001, the company was acquired by Yahoo for nearly half a billion dollars. Johnson and his family reside in Wilmington, N.C.
Rick Randall: Randall is president and CEO of TranS1, Inc., a private company that develops minimally invasive surgical approaches to treat lower back pain. Prior to joining TranS1 in June 2002, he founded Incumed, Inc., a medical device incubator. He has also served as president and CEO of Innovasive Devices, Inc., a manufacturer of arthroscopic surgical products, and Target Therapeutics, a pioneering company in the minimally invasive neurosurgery market. Randall currently serves as a director of TissueLink Medical and AbbeyMoor Medical. He and his family live in Wilmington, N.C.
