Wilmington, N.C. - At approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4 a ground floor unit at the University Arms Apartments caught fire, resulting in a loss of property in that apartment and smoke damage in adjoining units. No one was injured in the incident.

The University Arms Apartments property is owned by Pepys One LLC, a single member entity of the UNCW Corporation, a non-profit entity whose mission is to support the education, research and public service missions of the university.

Fire officials indicated that the no one was at home in the apartment where the fire started and that it initially appeared that the fire had started in the kitchen of the unit. However, the exact cause of the fire is not yet known.

Occupants of four apartments in the building were displaced by the fire and resulting smoke damage. The fire department is working with the local Red Cross to assist the families with relocation.
