UNCW Alumni Association Seeks Nominations for Annual Awards

Wilmington, N.C. - The deadline to nominate outstanding UNC Wilmington alumni and community leaders for the 2008 UNCW Alumni Association Awards is Monday, July 2, 2007. The awards, presented each year during Homecoming, represent the following categories:The Distinguished Alumni Award pays tribute to alumni who have achieved honor and distinction with recognition and reputations that extend beyond the immediate environments in which they live and work. Men and women who attended or graduated from Wilmington College or UNCW are eligible for nomination. The 2007 recipient is Maj. Gen. Thomas Dyches, Class of 1969. He is the Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Reserve Matters.
The Young Alumni Award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their communities through their professional success and civic involvement. Alumni are eligible if they attended or graduated within 10 years of the award year. The 2007 recipient is Mandy Hill Cook, who earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in marine biology from UNCW in 1999 and 2002, respectively. She also holds a doctorate in marine science from the University of South Florida.
The Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes recipients for their exceptional service to the university and the community. Recipients do not have to be UNCW alumni. The 2007 honoree is Frank Capra Jr., president of EUE/Screen Gems Studios North Carolina, the largest motion picture studio east of Hollywood. He is a distinguished visiting professor at the university.
