McNeill Elected Chair of UNCW Board of Trustees

WILMINGTON, N.C. - John A. "Sandy" McNeill Jr. of Whiteville was elected chair of the Board of Trustees at the University of North Carolina Wilmington at the board's August meeting. In addition, M. Terry Coffey of Wilmington was elected vice chair, and Wendy F. Murphy of Wallace was elected secretary. Windell Daniels of Wilmington was appointed to the board by the UNC Board of Governors to a four-year term ending in 2011.McNeill is chief executive officer of Liberty Healthcare Services, LLC. He serves on the PPD Board of Directors, the UNC Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors and the Pharmacy Foundation of North Carolina. McNeill received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to his professional affiliations, McNeill is active with the Cape Fear Council of Boy Scouts of America and Whiteville United Methodist Church.
Coffey is the president of Murphy-Brown East, headquartered in Warsaw, N.C. He is an adjunct professor at NC State University, serves on the board of directors for the American Society of Animal Science and is chair of the N.C. Swine Health Committee for the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Coffey received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Georgia.
Murphy received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from UNC Wilmington in 1993. She is an active volunteer at Harrells Christian Academy and works with the youth program at the Wallace United Methodist Church. She has served on the Duplin County Education Foundation and is presently serving on the Duplin County Community Foundation.
Daniels is the president of United National Tours and Daniels Development Company in Wilmington. He retired in 1985 from Koch Fuel where he was plant manager. He earned an associate's degree in general occupation social technology from Cape Fear Community College in 1980. Daniels currently serves as co-chairman of the City of Wilmington's Ten-Year Homeless Plan, chairs Housing Economics Opportunities, Inc., and is immediate past president and member of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, a member of the board of the Cape Fear Bank, and a former member of the UNCW Foundation Board and the Cape Fear Community College Foundation Board. He sponsors UNCW's annual Youth Entrepreneurship Program with the Cameron School of Business and the Upperman African American Cultural Center.
A 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Daniels is a trustee at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and a member of the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame Committee. Among his projects, Daniels purchased the historic 1904 William Hooper School and converted it into housing for senior citizens.
