UNCW Celebrates 60th Anniversary Sept. 4

Wilmington. N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a special ceremony at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4 on the Campus Commons near the Clock Tower at the north entrance of the Fisher Student Center. Rain site is the Lumina Theatre inside the Fisher Student Center.

The time of 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4 was selected because Wilmington College's first class began at 4 p.m., Sept. 4, 1947 at New Hanover High School. The commemoration will feature remarks from Donald P. Blake, first student body president of the 1946-47 Wilmington College Center and one of the founders of the alumni association, and Daniel S. Thorpe, 2007-08 UNC Wilmington student body president.

Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo will also speak. Long-time university employee Tyrone Rowell, assistant to the chancellor, will be master of ceremonies.

The public is invited to attend. Parking will be next to Greene Track.
