Media Alert: UNCW, CAA Schools Compete to Help Communities in Blood Drive Challenge

Thursday, September 20, 2007

The Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) and the Athletic Department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will compete for the sixth consecutive year in the annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge to assist the American Red Cross in its collection efforts.

WHAT: Annual Red Cross Blood Drive and CAA Blood Challenge

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2007

WHERE: Warwick Center Ballroom, UNCW

The Seahawks will compete with the CAA's 11 other schools to determine an overall winner for the most units collected. UNCW gathered 168 units in last year's competition, and has set a goal of 175 units for this year. The CLES sponsors multiple student blood drives each year. This one is unique in that it is a collaboration between the CLES, the Athletic Department, the American Red Cross and the CAA. The 175-unit goal for this drive is nearly twice the goal of other drives held throughout the year.

Media are welcome to attend and cover this event.
