Media Advisory: UNC Wilmington Veterans Day Remembrance Event Set for November 9

Wilmington, N.C. - The Student Veterans Organization (SVO) of the University of North Carolina Wilmington is sponsoring a Veterans Day Remembrance event at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Campus Commons Amphitheater.The ceremony will center around the clock chiming "the eleventh hour," when a moment of silence will be observed. David LaVere, professor in the Department of History, will speak about the history of Veterans Day. The keynote address will be delivered by UNCW Vice Chancellor for Public Service and Continuing Studies Stephen Demski, Colonel, United States Army Reserve. Music will be provided by faculty members Nancy King and Chris Ackerman and the UNCW Trumpet Studio.

The purpose of the UNC Wilmington SVO is to foster support for all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, members of the Reserves and National Guard, and military spouses, as well as to honor the diversity of veterans and encourage their pursuit of knowledge and academic excellence.
