The University of North Carolina Wilmington Department of Theatre opens the 2008-2009 season with a run of The Miss Firecracker Contest in the SRO Theatre. Shows times are 8 p.m. Sept. 25-27, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28.

The Miss Firecracker Contest was written prior to Beth Henley's Pulitzer Prize winning blockbuster, Crimes of the Heart - both are considered masterpieces of Southern Gothic comic style. Wesley Niemann stars as Carnelle Scott (Miss Firecracker); Ed Wagenseller, a lecturer in the department of theatre, directs.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 962.3500 or at the CAB box office one hour prior to the show. Prices are $12 for the general public, $10 for employees and alumni and $6 for students.
