Faculty Panelists to Weigh Implications of Genetic Engineering

A panel discussion on genetic engineering by College of Arts and Sciences faculty from the University of North Carolina Wilmington will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 in Dobo Hall room 134. In response to Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, the text chosen for fall by Synergy: the UNCW Common Reading Experience, panelists will discuss the social and ethical implications of genetic engineering from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Panel members include Diane Dodd, biology and marine biology, Dale McCall, anthropology, Karen Sandell, social work, Tom Schmid, philosophy & religion and Frank Trimble, communication studies. UNCW Associate Professor of History Bill McCarthy will serve as moderator. A welcome address will by given by David Cordle, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Question and answer session to follow.
This lecture is free to all students, faculty, staff and members of the public.
