Boseman Gallery Hosts Ariana Brouwer

The Boseman Gallery hosts Ariana Brouwer, the student recipient of the 2008-09 Ann Flack Boseman Scholarship. The merit-based award consists of $1,000 toward tuition and solo exhibition. It is given annually to a student selected by the faculty of the UNCW Department of Art and Art History. This scholarship is endowed through the generosity of donors Mark Griffis and Dave Robertson, in honor of Ann Boseman.

Brouwer's work focuses on sculpture and ceramics. She says, "The simplest things in nature are inspiring and intriguing; organic and geometric shapes and naturally perfect designs. These ideas are brought to life through rusted scrap metal and lumps of non-descript clay. Art combines the unconventional beauty of materials with the beauty of nature. Sculpture and ceramics encourage movement within the studio that releases productive energy. Transitioning between the various processes that create a work of art is stimulating. In this environment, spontaneous creative thoughts flow more freely. While working, ideas are always morphing as new opportunities arise."

The exhibition runs until Wednesday, Dec. 17 in the gallery, located on the second floor of the Fisher University Union. For more information, contact the UNCW Presents office at x27972 or visit www.uncw.edu/presents.
