Citizen Cope, Vanessa Carlton and the Annuals Headline UNC Wilmington Spring Show April 25

Indie recording artist Citizen Cope, Grammy-nominated Vanessa Carlton and the Annuals will be the featured artists for the 2009 University of North Carolina Wilmington Spring Show. Presented by the UNC Wilmington Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE), the annual concert will be held Saturday, April 25 in Trask Coliseum. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m.Citizen Cope was the top pick of UNCW students for the Spring Show. Known for his debut on the One Tree Hill: Friends with Benefits soundtrack, Cope has built a reputation for performing on festival circuits, and will be making his Bonnaroo debut in the summer of 2009. Known by the moniker Citizen Cope, Clarence Greenwood has released three CDs to critical praise. His 2006 release, Every Waking Moment peaked at 69 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. Hailed as, "a modern day bluesman who paints a plaintive portrait of the human condition," by Rolling Stone, Cope has been featured on the television soundtracks of shows such as Entourage, Cold Case and Criminal Minds. He is best known for his singles, "Let the Drummer Kick," (41 on the Billboard digital singles chart) and "Son's Gonna Rise" (featuring a guitar solo from the legendary Carlos Santana).
Cope will be joined by three-time Grammy nominee Vanessa Carlton, best known for her 2002 single, "A Thousand Miles." Carlton has continued her commercial success with successful collaborations including "Big Yellow Taxi" with the Counting Crows and "White Houses," co-produced with Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins. While on tour with Stevie Nicks, Carlton reestablished her knack for catchy piano pop with the 2007 album release of Heroes and Thieves.
Opening band the Annuals, a Raleigh-based "pop-percussion" band, has received praise from Rolling Stone as a "Breakout Band for 2008," and featured on national TV with musical spots on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the CW network hit Veronica Mars.
Ticket for the general public will be available at Sharky's Box Office in UNCW's Fisher Student Center beginning March 26. The cost is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the concert. Tickets for UNCW students are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event. Faculty and Staff tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event.
