UNC Wilmington Beach Sweep April 25 for National Volunteer Week

Monday, April 20, 2009

National Volunteer Week will be observed April 18-25 for the first time in the history of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, culminating with a clean sweep of Carolina Beach from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

Students will meet UNC Wilmington Surfrider Club members at the Carolina Beach boardwalk pavilion. Food, music and a local art show will be available for volunteers to enjoy.

Throughout the week, multiple activities will celebrate community service, and the campus will collect school supplies for Maiti Nepal, an organization created to combat the sex trafficking of women and children between Nepal and India. Numerous UNCW students, faculty and staff will also participate in Hands-On Wilmington service activities on April 25.

The UNC Wilmington Volunteer Week is organized by the UNCW Center for Leadership Education Service, which facilitates community service opportunities for the campus.

Media are invited to attend the National Volunteer Week events for interview and visual opportunities.
